very scarce
full-color vintage running poster measures approximately
30" x 20"
, on high-grade and
very fancy/textured poster stock
. The richness of the colors in this artistic track and field poster are simply superb! In extreme upper/right border, says
"Photo by Warren Morgan. Production courtesy of Nike"
(see close-up). Along the litho's bottom border in large letters, it says
"HAYWARD FIELD"
.

History
: though undated, I believe the poster dates to either 1987 or 1988. That was the time period when
Hayward Field
(Eugene, Oregon on the
University of Oregon
campus) and its iconic, weather-beaten East Grandstand structure (built during the 1920's and weighing 500 tons!) was raised up by heavy equipment operators and moved approximately 10 meters to accommodate the widening of the infield and the track's conversion from 440 yards to 400 meters. <>The offered poster was part of a fundraiser to raise monies to aid in Hayward Field's much-needed upgrade.
Alberto Salazar, Mary Slaney
and
Joaquim Cruz
all had local Eugene ties as well as
Nike
ties as well; both Salazar and Cruz competed for the
University of Oregon Ducks
, while Slaney made her home here. All are former Olympians as well, with Cruz winning a gold medal in the 800 meters! <>All of the aforementioned runners

this
extremely limited edition
poster (as they did with the other fundraiser posters, from what I was told). With the controversial 2018 demolition of Hayward's majestic East Grandstand (as well as the rest of Hayward Field), this classic signed poster is a "must have" for track & field fans who remember the great track meets (and football games) played at this venue!!
