So here’s the story of how I acquired it. Back in the late 1990s I would go with my family to the Renaissance Fair just north of the border of Illinois. There are many sellers there with a great variety of items in tune with the rest of the fair. Swords, leather goods, etc. One of the tents sold these puzzle boxes.
The sellers name is Don Wood and his wife Dawn, I believe they went by the company name of Treasure Box out of Black Earth Wisconsin. See the photo of the bottom of the box with their sticker on it. Also see the business card with their name and business on it. These boxes were extremely expensive, and rightfully so, the amount of time that goes into making these must be astronomical. This was by far the largest puzzle box they had.
The only time I have ever seen wooden puzzle boxes like this before are from another maker who’s first name is coincidently also Don. Don Rupard. In my opinion this box is just as exquisite as Mr. Rupard’s. Just see the photos and you will easily be able to appreciate how beautiful it is.
This is an extremely rare wooden puzzle box. There are a total of 23 pieces to this. Most puzzle boxes I have seen have maybe 5 or 6 pieces. so as you can see 23 pieces is just a massive amount for a wooden puzzle box.
