Description
This is a completely restored Roper Whitney No 50 Angle Iron Notcher. Every part on this has been sandblasted down to bare metal and repainted with Rustoleum Hammered Silver for easy touch ups. It was disassembled to the bare frame, all of the parts are original except for some countersink bolts and set screws that were replaced. All of the internals were in great shape, I used some brass brushes to clean up the inside of the ball screw race and reassembled everything with high quality moly grease on moving components and nickel based anti seize on all threaded connections. I replaced the ball bearings with new tight tolerance tool steel ball bearings. The only part that had to be replaced was a locating pin for the upper blade, it broke during disassembly, so I made a replacement out of 17-4 stainless steel, it is a light press fit into the upper blade holder and serves as a locating pin for installing the upper blade, and the larger diameter portion of the part is what the ball screw assembly pushes against to move the blade down during a notch. There shouldn't be any problems with this piece in the future and I made it to the same specs as the original piece. Everything else is in great shape, there aren't any dings or knicks in either blade and it cuts very smooth. The piece in the pictures is some 1.5"x1.5"x1/8" angle iron that I used for a test cut. I only needed a 12" handle to complete the notch and there is very little distortion after the cut, this notcher is rated to 2"x2"x1/4" angle iron and replacement blades are still available from Roper Whitney if needed in the future. Please feel free to message me with any questions or more pictures, I can get a picture of whatever you'd like to see.
