Description
Pitcher Tankard Carafe, Northwestern U, Delta Upsilon, Manhattan Silverplate, VintageUp for auction is a vintage silverplate pitcher or tankard or urn. It is engraved as a gift by the donor to the recipient. The donor is Mrs. W. P. Youngclaus, wife of a prominent businessman from Evanston, IL. The recipient is the Delta Upsilon Chapter, a fraternity at Northwestern University, in Evanston, IL.
The tankard is very ornate with a decorative floral design. The bottom says, “Manhattan Silver Plate Co., Quadruple Plate, Pat Apldfor.” Then, it says, “1105.”
It measures 11 inches to the very top and 6 ¾ inches at the base diameter. It is heavy at 4 lb, 6.6 ounces.
The condition excellent, with very slight denting visible only when turned upside down. (See photo.) The engraving is sharp and clear. The small, round handle of the lid is slightly wobbly. The main handle is strong and secure. The hinge on the lid works well. It sits flat on a surface. I have not attempted to polish the vintage tarnish/patina.
