    Description

"Jerry Glaser was a pioneer in the woodturning field. He began turning seriously in the 1950s, and his work was exhibited at major shows in the 1950's & 1960s, alongside Sam Maloof and Bob Stocksdale. Being an engineer, he began making tools after having a conversation with Bob Stocksdale. Bob talked about what he wanted in a turning tool, and Jerry was able to produce the Stocksdale gouge in high speed steel. Though more like a hobby than a business, Jerry created a line of the highest quality woodturning tools, including gouges, skews, scrapers, and screw chuck". Jerry created what many regard as the finest woodturning tool in the world.
I spotted this studio made bowl from across the room. Other than the splendid shape, and raised center (hard to see in images), this bowl is one of those things that brings tactile satisfaction....I couldn't stop running my hands on the piece, appreciating the shape and beautiful smooth teak.
Luckily, it is signed, so was able to do some research.
Those of you who know Jerry's work most likely know even more than I'm representing here.
Measures about 11 3/4" long and wide by 4 1/4" tall at higher sides.
    Bottom marked "Teak.....Glaser.....'70".
Bowl remains in super condition, with little issue; perhaps a handful of light scuffs. Not sure if some darkish marks inside are dirt or in the wood. Please enlarge images to carefully view the piece.
On rim are some small white specks, shown magnified in 11th image. Looks to me that something (white) rubbed against the bowl. I removed a little, but hesitant to go further, as I'm no expert regarding wood.
    No chips or cracks.
This is a seriously collectible Jerry Glaser wood turned bowl, worthy of any collection.
This beauty would make a grand gift!
I saw one of Jerry's bowls on 1stdibs website, listed for two thousand dollars!
